Knife engraving on blade

Which are the best knife engraving machines for personalisation?

Discover our knife and spoon engraving solutions for a durable, high-quality personalisation.

Cutlery engraving, like knife engraving or spoon engraving, is the perfect way to transform everyday utensils into meaningful keepsakes or premium gifts. The technology behind this transformation determines quality, durability, and creative possibilities.

Gravotech’s knife engraving machines address distinct personalisation needs with laser and mechanical technologies. Our personalisation machines can engrave both knife blades and handles with unparalleled precision on materials like stainless steel, wood, or plastic. Whether for personal use or corporate gifting, engraving adds a unique touch of personalisation to kitchen knives, cutlery, or chopsticks, making them stand out. The result is a long-lasting engraving that is dishwasher-resistant, ensuring both elegance and practicality.

What are Gravotech’s cutlery & knife engravers?

The M20 X knife engraving machine is a compact and efficient solution for precise blade personalisation.

Perfect for boutiques or back-office use, this personalisation machine specialises in subtle knife engravings that create a play of light effects with a diamond tool instead of high-contrast markings. A sharper tool can be used to create a groove in the material, like plastic, to fill it with colour later on.

Equipped with custom jigs, it ensures accurate placement and easy handling, making it ideal for businesses offering personalised knives as premium gifts.

Gravotech’s laser personalisation machines are designed for engraving both knife blades and handles with precision, as well as other cutlery. These machines require no piece-holding, delivering deep engravings on materials like metal, wood, or plastic.

The WeLase™ knife engraving machine is ideal for boutiques and backrooms, offering high-contrast black markings, while the LW2 and LW3 laser engravers excel in back-office or warehouse environments, enabling efficient personalisation.

Our machines adapt to a variety of engraving applications with the different laser sources. With a CO2 laser source, it is possible to engrave organic material, such as wood and plastics. In addition, a fibre laser source is ideal to engrave plastics and metals. To engrave all materials, the green laser source is the best solution.

It is also possible to scrape materials out with the LW2 or LW3 to offer a unique design for your customers.

For high-volume knife engraving or other cutlery personalisation, the LS100 EX and LS900 laser tables are perfect for serial production. These personalisation machines ensure from knife engravings to other cutlery items like fork or spoon engravings. To engrave efficiently, a template needs to be produced to place the items side by side in the machine, then all the items will be engraved at the same time.

Designed for warehouse use, they offer unmatched accuracy and durability, allowing businesses to meet the demand for high-quality, personalised utensils at scale.

What is the difference between laser and mechanical for knife engraving?

Laser knife engraving

Our laser knife engraving machines are perfect for engraving a wide range of materials, including metals (fibre and green laser sources), wood (CO2 and green laser sources) and plastics (fibre, CO2 and green laser sources). This technology allows the flexibility to offer a wider variety of customisations.

These personalisation machines deliver a high-contrast rendering, creating a sleek, modern look that appeals to both contemporary and traditional markets. With precision technology, every part of the knife can be engraved—from the metal blade to the wooden handle, as well as accessories like knife sheaths and gift boxes.

This versatility allows businesses to create fully personalised products that stand out, whether for individual customers or branded collections.

Mechanical

For an authentic touch or handcrafted look, our mechanical knife engraving machines specialise in creating precise knife engravings on metal, delivering high-quality, durable results.

The engraved designs reflect light beautifully, adding an aesthetic, timeless appeal to the final product. This method is ideal for engraving the blade or any other metal part of the knife, as well as other cutlery items or accessories made out of metal or plastic.

Our machines come with specialised jigs that securely hold items in place during the engraving process, ensuring accuracy and ease of use and making them perfect for detailed and consistent customisation.

FAQ: The 4 questions most frequently asked of our experts

🔽How do you ensure the engraving is food-safe?

Food safety depends on the marking parameters and the material. While laser marking is generally safe on stainless steel of custom kitchen tools, mechanical engraving can sometimes create microscopic grooves that retain particles. It is recommended to thoroughly clean the blade (and marking) after each use. Gravotech performs specific tests on samples to analyse how different metal and wood materials react to ensure your cutlery meets the required standards

🔽Does the engraving weaken the cutlery or affect its long-term durability?

No, neither rotary nor laser technology affects the knife's structural integrity or durability. The engraving depth is carefully adjusted based on the thickness of the blades or handles, ensuring the cutlery remains professional-grade and resistant to repeated use.

🔽What is the best engraving machine for cutlery and knives?

For in-store retail, the WeLase™ (Laser) is the best choice for its speed and "Wow" effect. For a traditional look on metal blades, the M20 X (Rotary) with its specialised jigs is preferred. For industrial production of large cutlery sets, the LS900 laser table offers the best format, engraving surface and productivity.

🔽Which parts of a knife can be engraved?

You can personalise almost every part. The metal blade is perfect for logos or monogram text. The handle (whether made of wood, plastic, or metal) can be engraved for a complete custom look. Even the side of the handle or the bolster can be marked using our high-precision knife engraving machine systems.
